Journal 1 Blog Post Chapters 1-3

Journal #1 Robbin Chapter 1-3

Summary: Within these three chapters Robbins gives a very detailed breakdown on what is crucial when it comes to constructing or running a successful web page. He gives details on what types of jobs that are required, what type of hardware/ software that is suggested, and even what types of formatting from text to borders that can be used to add greater professionalism to the project.  Differences from defining the Web opposed to the Internet is used to make a connection to other important factors such as IP and DNS  and how they are used to make HTTP web addresses, and what are the components of HTTP web addresses.

Robins uses the first three chapters to cater to both advanced and beginning web developers. He lays out the bare bones of strategy, necessity, and experience gap.

Q1: Is Web design usually a solo job or a team effort?
A1: Web design can be looked at as both. Some people might be making web pages that are for very small companies or for personal use. Usually with these, it is not uncommon to see one person doing it all. On the other hand, for bigger corporate jobs it is not unusual to see big teams working on the same project. Some people have niches such as being very experienced with graphic design, while others might be better with HTML coding.

Q2:  Is Web surfing becoming more complex over time or staying stagnant?
A2: Web surfing is becoming far more complex as time goes on. This would be because as time progresses many different outlets are becoming available for Web surfing use. Things such as Mobile Phones, Tablets, PC’s, and even some refrigerators now have web browsing capabilities! As Technology progresses, the means of Web surfing will continue to broaden greatly.

  1. When I look at web design and see if it should be done solo or in a team. I look at the size of the project to determine if a person can do it by themself. Most small websites that you come across online can be made by an individual person. If the website does not have a lot of information or internal pages it might not take much time to create. A large website would be Cal Poly Pomona's where it has several links to department's home page. It also links students to additional resources. This website needs several people playing a certain role in keeping information up to date and accessible to all of the students.

  2. You are correct on what Robbins does in the first three chapters. Robbins does lay out the bare bones of web design for all levels. I like question and answer 2 because it directly relates to chapter 3 and how the web and internet are progressing and will continue to change and progress as time goes on.

  3. I agree that web surfing is becoming more complex. While the technology and the code is getting easier(because of the standards), everything else is becoming more difficult because of the need to accomodate all of the new devices.
